Licenses and Insurance Requirements for Construction Management

Construction Managers Licenses

In compliance to the Professions Code 7026, AB 2237 and CSLB we are including our “active” General Contractors License (B) and Painting License (C-33) to comply with the requirements for the Construction Management multi-trade construction projects and for single trade oversight of Painting Projects.

California Business and Professions Code Section 7026.1(b) (1). Includes any  person or consultant to an  association, organization, partnership, business trust, corporation, or company, who or which undertakes, offers to undertake, purports to undertake, purports to have the capacity to undertake, or submits a bid to construct any building or home improvement project, or part thereof.

Assembly Bill 2237 expands upon this definition by adding subsection (2) to Section 7026.1(b) states that a “consultant” includes a person who either: (A) “Provides or oversees a bid for a construction project,” or (B) “Arranges for and sets up work schedules for contractors and subcontractors and maintains oversight of a construction project.” As a result of AB 2237, Construction Managers are required to hold a Contractors License in order to obtaining bids and overseeing the progress of ongoing construction work.

Contractor State License Board (CSLB)

Section 7057(a) broadly defines general building contractor as a contractor whose principal business is in connection with any structure built, being built, or to be built, requiring in its construction the use of at least two unrelated building trades or crafts; however, framing or carpentry projects may be performed without limitation. In some instances, a general building contractor may take a contract for projects involving one trade only if the general contractor holds the appropriate specialty license  with an appropriately licensed specialty contractor to perform the work.
